His scholarly work includes the co-authored, peer-reviewed article Managing Information in Hospitals and Health Systems: Lessons from the Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award for Healthcare, published in the International Journal of Healthcare Management in 2014. His doctoral research examined the relationship between leadership and faculty attitudes toward the adoption of emerging instructional technologies, with his dissertation submitted for inclusion in ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global.
Before transitioning into higher education full-time, Dr. Dougherty spent seven years working on statewide healthcare and long-term care initiatives in Alabama, including consulting roles supporting the Alabama Medicaid Agency and the Alabama Department of Senior Services. That work, combined with his experience in healthcare delivery, higher education, regulation, and research, has shaped a career focused on improving how healthcare professionals learn, lead, and adapt to change.
As Vice President of Learning Operations, Dr. Dougherty will lead the development and expansion of the Institute’s education portfolio, including a new continuing education platform for healthcare professionals, the ENMG course series, and the Annual ENMG Symposium offered in partnership with Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.
